INTRODUCTION
Big Island (Malay: Pulau Besar) is an island off the coast of Malacca, Malaysia, and is located approximately 13 km from the mainland. the island is just a few kilometers from the port of Malacca, merchants, adventurers and missionaries were keen to inhabit the island. So much so,it is also well known as a Mystical Island that was filled with ancient Islamic graves, tombs and mausoleums scattered around the island. Malaysian.
Gunung (Mountain)Jerai is the highest mountain of Kedah, at 1,217m with a highland resort situated on the peak. Isolated from the main range, it can be seen from as far as Penang, with a beautiful mossy forest at the upper elevations and strange limestone formations. In ancient times, the mountain was a landmark for trade ships sailing along the coast, while associated with various myths and legends. Today, a boutique hotel provides modern accommodation for visitors, while locals venerate various natural attractions around the peak as a shrine. A 13km road leads to the summit from near Gurun and Yan towns, but you can also hike through the jungle from the foothill.
The Kota Gelanggi caves complex is of historical importance, first recorded by Cameron in 1882 in the Royal Asiatic Soc. Journal. Since then many other people have written about the caves, but have been inconsistent with the naming. Various archaeological digs, especially by the Muzium Negara Department of Museum & Antiquities has revealed human remains dating 1500 years.
